1.5 CEUs

June 29th, 2023  11:00am-12:30pm

online synchronous, via Zoom

Although largely invisible until very recently, LGBTQ older adults make up a growing share of both the overall LGBTQ population and the larger 65+ population. While confronted with the same challenges that face all people as they age, LGBTQ elders also face an array of unique barriers and inequalities that can stand in the way of a healthy and rewarding later life. This workshop will explore special considerations and realities of being older and part of the LGBTQ+ community. Practitioners will be encouraged to explore their role in supporting these older adults through key practice recommendations and strategies. Areas of practice such as assessment and confidentiality will be explored through case studies.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify key considerations of inclusion and experiences of LGBTQ+ older adults.
  2. Discover methods of supporting LGBTQ+ older adults.
  3. Explain at least three recommendations for addressing clinical considerations in working with LGBTQ+ older adults.
