Join Rae Bowerman (pronouns they/them) for an informational session regarding terminology used by and about the gender-expansive community and their inclusion in the transgender community. Topics include definitions and usage of affirming language; approaches to inclusive care; the concept of having a "valid" identity; and providing respectful and responsive therapeutic services.

Learning objectives. Participants will:

  • learn strategies for incorporating affirming, culturally-responsive language into their interactions with gender-expansive clients.
  • increase their ability to identify and correctly use terminology associated with the gender-expansive community.
  • understand the significance and intersectionality of sex assigned at birth, gender identity, sexual orientation, gender presentation, and gender expression.
